Peso da Régua
Planted by the Douro River, Régua always knew take advantage of its location and its climate, betting on the Douro wine production. In 1757, the creation of the "Companhia Geral da Agricultura e Comércio dos Vinhos do Alto Douro" gave rise to its expansion, having been built large warehouses wineries along the River, being followed by the houses. In 1837 it was elevated to a village, and was attached to the municipality of Godim and, in 1985, was elevated to a town. Nowadays, the farm winery of Peso da Régua, along with rural tourism that derives from this culture, are the main development engines of the region. The region offers visitors typical dishes, as the oven rice with roast lamb, the "leite-creme", the "falachas" (typical sweet made from chestnuts), the "doces rabelos" (with the format of these typical boat of the Douro River) and the "Ferreirinhas" (consisting of raisins, pine nuts, almonds, chila and port). Don't forget to taste the famous "rebuçados da Régua"! Handicraft tells the story of the municipality and its connection to the wine and vineyard: since the bottles labeled in tin, to "cestos vindimos" and replicas of Rabelo boats. Fond memories to carry this beautiful region!
