Sober building built in granite with a porch columns, topped based. At each end of the facade there is a stone of weapons, possibly from another location. This property was residence of the 1st Earl Arrochela.

Botica's House is, at the same time, House of culture and the municipal library of Póvoa de Lanhoso. Is one of the oldest in the County, built in 1676 and retired in 1862, before the urbanization plan of the village. In relation to the origin of the name Casa da Botica, Pelican, placed on the façade of the building, gives some lights on designation. It is known that the Pelican now is regarded as religious symbol and as a Christian symbol.

Maria da Fonte, or revolution of the Minho, is the name given to a popular revolt that occurred in the spring of 1846 against the cartista Government presided by António Bernardo da Costa Cabral, due to new military recruitment laws, fiscal alterations and the prohibition to carry out burials inside churches. The revolt began in Póvoa de Lanhoso and quickly spread from the North of the country.
