Santa Susana is a typical village of the Alentejo region, with ground floor small houses, painted in white with a blue bar and big chimneys. Built over a century ago, they lodged farm workers temporarily and they eventually stayed in the place. Nowadays, it is a peaceful village of the Alentejo where one can savour the local gastronomy and become acquainted with the region's craftswork.
O artesanato de arte sacra, do qual se destacam as imagens de Cristo, está enraizado há muito nesta região. As madeiras utilizadas são o cedro, o choupo e o plátano. Das ferramentas para a sua confeção destacam-se: os formões, os bedames, as facas, e o enxó, entre outras. Located by the shore, in the Tróia peninsula, this village dates back to at least 5000 years ago. The vestiges of shells and ceramics of the neolithic show precisely that. Very rich in cultural terms (as one can see in the boats miniatures, the wooden shacks and the embroideries) irs 600 or so inhabitants are devoted mainly to farming, fishing and preparing the rice.
