Ançã

The foundation of this village is attributed to the benedictin monks, in the 7th century. A special note to the unusual core of old houses, mostly of the 18th century. Among its monuments, the chapels with porches and a fountain, the mother church, the palace of the Marquis of Cascais and the pillory. The inhabitants still keep to some old customs, namely the fact that the women go to the fountain with their tin can jars. The gastronomy includes the famed Ançã cakes and the craftswork includes masonry, basket manufacturing, iron objects and more.
