Cantanhede

Divided between the regions of Bairrada and Gândara, the municipality of Cantanhede is rich in forest resources and that is the reason why the agricultural sector, in particular the viticulture, is one of its main economic activities. It presents a vast built heritage of Manueline, Renaissance and Mannerist styles. It has also kept brilliant examples of popular gandaresa houses, an ex-libris of the traditional Portuguese architecture. When it comes to cultural spaces, the Casa Municipal da Cultura and the Museu da Pedra de Cantanhede are worth a visit. The Expofacic (agricultural, commercial and industrial Fair of Cantanhede) is, since 1991, one of every year's highlight, an event that brings national and international artists together. In terms of culture and cuisine, try the leitão assado à moda da Bairrada (Bairrada style roast suckling pig) and the regional wine, which make any mouth water.
