Guerreiro Calaico / Castrejo

Monolith carved in granite representing the figure of a warrior, (2nd century iron age. I ad) erect and in stop position. Was found, along with other similar copy, probably in the 19th century. 18TH CENTURY (and was later, in the 20th century, found two more mindless statues) in great Castro do Lesenho, (at an elevation of 1075 meters) in Fields, parish of s. Salvador de Viveiro. This Warrior is wearing sagum (out exuberantly decorated with geometric motifs of concentric circles chained and plaids), v-neck and short sleeves, girded by a belt with four parallel veins. The head is proportionate, displaying the short hair and leaving free ears, beard and moustache. Sports the following weapons: round and flat caetra (typical round shield), with umbo, with decorations of labyrinth type, hold the left hand with crossed straps at the forearm and right hand wields a dagger short triangular, with pomo discoidal, introduced in a sheath with circular profile tale and transversal lines of potential sleepers. Wears around his neck a torque (piece of jewelery in Warriors of time typical) with open collar and on each arm, one would come from three toros (kind of bracelet). The Warrior Calaico-Lusitano is the maximum exponent of National Archaeology and represents, according to some authors, the image of the deity and the Warrior nature of civilizations that inhabited the Castro culture in this region. These statues of warriors Calaico-Lusitanos, considered a national treasure, are currently in Lisbon, at the National Museum of Archaeology, having been placed in the garden of the Town Hall square a granite replica of that which became one of the symbols of the municipality of Boticas.
