Alvaiázere
Located in the center of the country, Alvaiázere is part of the district of Leiria. The fertile soils, the well-irrigated valleys and floodplains and the slopes covered by corn fields, vineyards and olive trees have always contributed to agriculture assuming a preponderant role in the local economy. In the Serra de Alvaiázere, 600 meters above sea level, in addition to the panoramic view that allows you to observe the white and ocher houses, there are remains of an old fortified town. All over the municipality there are traces of the past, reflected in the various manors and manor farms. The local cuisine has strong mountain influences, with recipes made from "chícharo" (pea), cultivated since ancient times, being the most wanted.
