Porto de Mós
Porto de Mós is a village and municipality in the middle of the protected area of Serras de Aires and Candeeiros, with about 27 thousand inhabitants, divided into 13 parishes. This is one of the few counties in the region that not only lost population in recent decades, as they have seen little growth. The town of Porto de Mós-built in 1305 by King Dinis-is closely linked to its characteristic Castle, also called Castle of d. Fuas Roupinho. The plan of the castle is an irregular Pentagon and counter the panoramic covers the village, the hills of lamps and a beautiful landscape. The region is known for its impressive caves, and is in Porto de Mós which may find the most imposing: the cave of Santo António Caves of Alvados and, above all, the famous caves de Mira d'Aire. Discovered in 1947, are the largest caves of Portugal and, in 2010, have been classified as one of the Seven natural wonders of Portugal.
