Museu de Geologia Fernando Real - UTAD

The Museum of geology at the UTAD was founded in 1985 by Prof. Dr. Fernando Real, notable geologist and Magnificent Rector of the Instituto Universitario de Trás-os-Montes that the following year would be the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. For the creation of the Museum greatly contributed the professors that constituted the Department of geology at this time. The Museum is situated in the building of Geosciences, which constitutes the core of the campus of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. This museum, scientific character, has an area of approximately 250 m2. It houses collections of minerals, rocks and fossils, mostly of our country whose quality and beauty very dignify this space. Started virtually with the personal collections of minerals, rocks and fossils of its founder and other supporters, today the Museum of Geology is possessed of a valuable collection of several thousands of samples from all over the world, where the main Portuguese mines are represented through wonderful specimens of minerals and ores. The enthusiasm and the collaboration of numerous benefactors has been shown to be crucial in the development of our Museum, through the enrichment of collections of specimens of minerals and rocks and fossils of the numerous suggestions and ideas until we arrive. The Museum of geology at the UTAD aims to paramount, create a living space where UTAD students and visitors, particularly students and teachers from all schools in the region, find answers to the many questions related to the Earth Sciences and the incentive to carry out works and research projects and research in the various fields of Geology. Is also another great set of goals of the Museum of geology at the UTAD promote dissemination of Sciences and geological resources, the scientific, technical and cultural promotion of our University by stimulating and promoting interaction with other partners in various technical and educational and scientific domains.
