Museu Epigráfico Egitaniense
Idanha-a-Velha "rises where was built the glorious city of Egitânia, countless times invaded and plundered. Here we found traces of prehistory, the Celts, the Roman Classicism, the Suevi, Visigoths, Arabs, middle ages and Portuguese Manueline period constructions. The Epigraphic Museum in Egitaniense Cathedral, originally built on a paleocristão Temple, being the first Visigothic Cathedral built in the Iberian Peninsula. Inside, we see the largest collection of Roman epigraphy in Europe, ever found in one place. Another part of this estate is part of the Tavares Proença Júnior Museum Collections (White Castle) and the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology (Lisbon).
