Mina do Lousal
Iberian pyrite belt belt integrated, that, about 250 km in length and a width which reaches the 40 km, starts at the vale do Sado and extends into the Valley of the Guadalquivir, the Lousal mine was explored between 1900 and 1988, when it closed its extractive activity. Was a farmer in the region, António Manuel, who, in August 1882, requested the Ministry of public works and Mines the degree of discovery of Tomb of Lousal. But it was only from the third decade of the 20th century that the Lousal began to be exploited more intensely. To learn a little more about these mines, visit the Lousal Ciência Viva Centre of, which is installed in a building formerly associated with the mining activity. The building underwent some adaptations to function as a space for the dissemination of scientific and technological culture, featuring today from various valences: expositive areas, interactive modules, virtual Grotto, lab, Internet café, Auditorium, recreational spaces and Belvedere.
