Located on a cliff 400 meters above sea level, Alter Pedroso is an ancient village, six kilometers from the municipal seat (Alter do Chão) and around twenty from the city of Portalegre. Of particular note are the remains of the old castle, the church with baroque remains and the houses featuring popular and well-preserved architecture. Nearby there is a tourist hunting area. Also, noteworthy is the Talefe or Alter Pedroso natural viewpoint.

A fortress sin the beginning of Portugal, it used to have a castle of which only the watchtower, a part of the donjon and some parts of the walls remain.
