At the city historic centre are the Praça da República, Largo de Santa Maria, Arcos dos Prazeres, Rua Aresta Branco, Rua dos Infantes, Rua do Touro, Rua da Guia, Rua dos Pintores, Rua Manuel de Arriaga, Rua da Ancha and Rua Abel Viana. Here may be seen several monuments of great architectonic and patrimonial value.

É tradição que as raparigas de Vila Real ofereçam este doce típico, recheado de calondro, aos rapazes seus eleitos no dia de Santa Luzia, que se festeja a 13 de dezembro. Os rapazes retribuem, por sua vez, no dia 3 de fevereiro (dia de São Brás) com a oferta de outro doce típico, a gancha. Os pitos de Santa Luzia terão sido criados por Ermelinda Correia, que veio a ser mais tarde a Irmã Imaculada de Jesus.

Basilica located on Monte de Santa Luzia, built in the 19th century, with a project by Ventura Terra, of Romanesque-Byzantine inspiration, according to the preference for classical models, typical of the time. Some authors identify the architectural language used in this building with the Sacré-Coeur, in Paris.

The Bragança's Citadel is worth a visit. Enter its fortified enclosure, looking at the doors, and discover the castle walls, the Keep, the Church of Santa Maria, the Domus Municipalis and the Pillory.

This statue with about 4 feet tall, depicting a Saint, is located at the top of monte da Senhora do Castelo, in the ruins of the Castle.

Pleasant place where you can walk in the gardens of dense vegetation, as well as enjoy the views from the viewpoint. From this point, you can see not only the entire city, but also the river and the sea, in a single frame. Be sure to visit the Basilica of Santa Luzia.

Museum opened in 1921, located in the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo, classified as a national monument. Here you can visit an extensive historical and artistic collection: Archaeology, painting, sculpture, liturgical vestments, sacred art and ethnography. Still has a room for temporary exhibitions.
