Founded in 1939 by the Professor Bissaya Barreto, with the help of the inhabitants, this garden was created by artists from Coimbra. Until 2006 it included the Casa da Criança (Children's Home).

Discover the Quelhas Brook on foot, since fortunately it cannot be reached by car, a tru feast of nature, with quite unique ravines of schist. There is a wide variety of trees: English oaks, European Hollies, strawberry trees and chestnut trees. Enjoy the singing of the jays.

According to the legend, Viriato, the famed lusitan chief, was born here. It is the birthplace of Aristides de Sousa mendes, the consul of Portugal in Bordeaux who saved thousands of Jews during World War 2. There are vestiges of manors. A special note to the mother church, the chapel of Our Lady of Amparo, the Christ King, the Theatre's Main Hall, the salons of the Philarmonia Society and the house of Aristides Sousa Mendes. Craftswork includes forged iron objects and carvings.
