Cabanas de Viriato
According to the legend, Viriato, the famed lusitan chief, was born here. It is the birthplace of Aristides de Sousa mendes, the consul of Portugal in Bordeaux who saved thousands of Jews during World War 2. There are vestiges of manors. A special note to the mother church, the chapel of Our Lady of Amparo, the Christ King, the Theatre's Main Hall, the salons of the Philarmonia Society and the house of Aristides Sousa Mendes. Craftswork includes forged iron objects and carvings.
