Island off the coast of Alentejo, near the locality of Porto Covo. Part of the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina. On the island there is a Fort built by Philip III in 1603.

It was here that on the age of 11 or 12, with three of his brothers, Vasco da Gama received the tonsure and became a member from Santiago Order. On the 18th century the medieval church, already too small for the quantity of prayers that wanted to attend the mess, had to be remodelled receiving its present aspect typical from the Joanine baroque.

Modern infrastructure located in the historic area of Sines. It has a library and an exhibitions centre. It features theatre plays and art shows on a daily basis.

A 16th century chapel that still has, in the main façade, a manuelin portal and stones with inscriptions. On both sides one can view the counterforts, ending in conical pinnacles, that support the dome that covers its only nave. The walls have 18th century tiles. It has only one nave and a high altar with star shaped domes that stand on corbels, manuelin elements on the locks, on the corbels and on the portal.

A very touristy beach, slightly rocky, with a beautiful fortress and excellent for sea sports.A restaurant that serves regional tidbits at high prices.Somewhat lively evenings. It has a camping area.

A small recreational port, with limited places.Located in a highly industrialised area, with good accesses, well signaled.There is a small, modern marina, only for sailboats, 50 metres away.

A rather lovely beach, located by the castl whre Vasco da Gama was born and by the fish and recreation port.Attended by youngsters with lively evenings.Fine quality restaurant.

A beach with some rocks, quite attended in the summer, due to the location, the local beaty and the temperature. Volleyball and surf are practised here.It has a beach bar.
