Penela
Located in the center of the country, Penela is the southernmost municipality in the district of Coimbra, bordering Ansião, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Condeixa-a-Nova, Miranda do Corvo and Soure. There are several mountain villages in the municipality, with typical and well-preserved rural architecture. We highlight the schist village of Ferraria de São João, in the parish of Cumieira, one of the 23 schist villages spread across thirteen municipalities in Pinhal Interior. One of the municipality's best-known products is Rabaçal cheese, made with goat's and sheep's cheese and flavored with Santa Maria herb. Regarding crafts, basketry and tinwork are the most important crafts.
