Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado
Occupying most of the estuary and its surrounding area (parishes of Alcácer do Sal, Grândola, Palmela and Setúbal), the Natural Reservation of the Sado's Estuary is a mixture of river and sea waters, where the sand banks, the beaches and dunes and the fens and cane fields hide from curious looks, in a rather rich ecosystem with a most varied fauna and flora. The reservation is particularly important for several duck species and has the most significant doplhin colony in the country. The shoreline, as well as the dunes of Tróia and the Lagoons of Herdade do Pinheiro, in a total area of about 23000 ha, are part of the Natural Reservation.
