Vila do Conde

Located on the north bank of the mouth of the Ave River and bathed by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Vila do Conde has a history intricately linked to the river and the sea, and it is these elements that dictate, along with the industry, its main activities: tourism bathing areas and fishing ports. The region's craft markets reflect its traditions: from the miniature wooden boats, which date back to the time of sea explorations, the rag quilts and rugs, the bobbin lace pieces, to the wrought-iron work: railings, gates, keyholes, and knockers. Its gastronomy is equally rich, with special emphasis on roast kid goat, hake “à marinheiro”, Easter folar (traditional bread) and conventual sweets. Delight yourself with the famous sweet egg pastries!
