Floresta Laurissilva
A forest that dates back to the Tertiary and that used to spread along vast regions of the European continent. Currently it is only found in some North Atlantic archipelagos, namely in Madeira with the largest woods of this kind still to be found in the world. It is both important due to its diversity of flora and fauna species and to the fact that it is well preserved. The UNESCO classified it as Mankind's Heritage in 1999.
