Located in the eastern part of the south coast of the island of São Miguel, the municipality of Povoação is bordered by the municipalities of Nordeste, Ribeira Grande and Vila Franca do Campo. The abundant vegetation aroused, from an early age, the interest of the discoverers who, believing in the fertility of the land, began to transport cattle, wheat seeds, vegetables and some agricultural implements to the island, with the aim of settling here. The landscapes, parks, especially Terra Nostra, and beaches are some of the most popular places. From the various viewpoints, you can capture fantastic views of all these natural elements. Regional cuisine and sweets are showcased in the various restaurant units. The famous Portuguese stew, made in volcanic holes with hermetically sealed pans, is one of the highlights.

Parque Terra Nostra

Povoação

A park by the Hotel Terra Nostra, that dates back to the 18th century. A pleasant space where strenuous trails side lakes and cross colourful alleys of exotic flowers.

Lagoa das Furnas

Quiet lagoon with clear waters, on whose banks stands the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias and where the well-known stew is made, burying the pots in the ground.

Fumarolas - Caldeiras das Furnas

Set of fumaroles located in the center of the island, more specifically inside Caldeira das Furnas. Here you can find around twelve types of water, each with different medicinal properties.

Parque Florestal das Furnas
