Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo
At the end of the Promontory, overlooking the North Beach, Sebastian ordered the construction of the fortress of s. Miguel in 1577, in order to defend the pirates ' Cove, rebuilt later by order of Philip II in 1600. The stroke that today presents was commissioned by King John IV, at the time of the restoration of the monarchy. Triangular in shape, has a bastion at each angle, a wall in slope at the bottom and, internally, the Plaza de armas on the 2nd floor and the bunkers that open by several perfect round arches. Since 1903 there is installed a beacon navigation aid with a range of 15 miles.
