Do Bairro Alto ao Cais do Sodré

At the top of Glória Lift is the garden and viewpoint of São Pedro de Alcântara and, going up Dom Pedro V Street, you reach Jardim do Príncipe Real. Underneath the garden is the Patriarcal water reservoir, from 1864. A little further on are the Natural History and Science Museums, as well as the Botanical Garden. On Academia das Ciências Street you will find the Academy and the Geological Museum. Continuing along São Bento Street you will find the Assembly of the Republic, installed in the São Bento Palace. Continue along Avenida Dom Carlos I and you will see the Monumental Fountain of Esperança. Then, going up Poço dos Negros Street and Calçada do Combro, you will find the Church and the Miradouro de Santa Catarina. Go down the typical Bica Lift, which takes you around São Paulo, and visit the Church with the same name. In Travessa do Carvalho are the old thermal baths (Banhos de São Paulo) and, further on, passing by Praça Dom Luís I, is the Municipal Market of 24 de Julho, built in 1876. On the beautiful riverside promenade, take the opportunity to taste fresh fish grilled and then go up Alecrim Street to Largo Luís de Camões. Then enter Bairro Alto, an area known for its lively nightlife, and have fun among bars and fado houses.
