Museu Mineiro / Antiga Casa da Malta

The Mining Museum of S. Pedro da Cova is installed in one of the old Houses of Malta, built by the Companhia das Minas de Carvão, with the aim of housing miners from other lands – the "Maltese". Later, this building was acquired by the Parish Council of S. Pedro da Cova, and on the 30th of September 1989 it was inaugurated as the Mining Museum, becoming a place of memory of the former coal mining workers, assuming an industrial vocation – receiving the movable property that could be collected at the time of the closure of the Companhia das Minas de Carvão, ethnographic and local – testifying the strong connection of the people of São Pedro with coal mining – collecting a significant collection of fossils.
