Gavião
The municipality of Gavião belongs to the district of Portalegre, in the North of Alentejo, at the confluence of the Alentejo with Ribatejo and Beira Interior, sharing the Tagus River with these two regions. In terms of heritage, the landscape is the most expressive asset. Being an essentially agricultural municipality, from ancient times to the present, its population maintains many of the rural traits that make up its history and ethnography. The most typical flavors are hunting dishes, "maranhos", "assalhões", lamprey and eels. In the case of handicrafts, paintings on porcelain, ceramics, tiles and embroidery are the most commonly found. Every year, the municipality organizes gastronomic and craft fairs that show visitors the best of the region.
