Medieval church remodelled in the 20th century, when the chancel was enlarged and side chapels were built and a sacristy. The main façade is topped by a bell tower with ogive portal.

This set of steps, or stations of the religious life, were originally seven when they were built in 1727. However, they were later transferred or removed, leaving only five: Step from Largo do Carmo, Rua de Santa Maria step, Step Largo João Franco, Step of the Senhora da Guia and Step the fair field.

This church was built in 1737, with the houses of the fraternity of St. Peter, showing a simple architecture. In 1782 is granted a Royal provision that authorized the expansion of the Church. In 1880, the Junta Magna of the brotherhood authorizes the start of work, after approval by the Association of Architects of Lisbon. After a year start the works, having been demolished the houses of the brethren, and the job ended only in the early 20th century.

This is one of the seven chapels built in 1727 by the brotherhood of our Lady of consolation and Santos Passos, demonstration of popular devotion to the Passion of Christ. Over the years, the steps were being transferred or dismounted and, currently, only five of the original seven steps.

This Gothic church suffered several transformations, particularly on the 18th century. On the main chapel it is possible to stand out the most remarkable Joanine altarpiece from the city, the golden carved altarpieces, and pelmets in Rocaille style and glazed tiles panels showing scenes from Christ life. It is alo worthy to mention the sacristy with panelled ceiling, the two floors cloister, the Gothic chapter room from the 16th century, and the central fountain dating from the 18th century. Erected in the late 16th century, in Renaissance style, this church with the participation of architects vimaranenses Gonçalo Lopes and João Lopes de Amorim. We highlight the main altarpiece, dating from the late 18th century and organ cases with risk of Fr. José António Vilaça.
