House built between the 17th and 18th centuries, in the popular civil style of Madeira, was the birthplace of Dr. Horácio Bento de Gouveia. Theatre built in the end of the XIX century by the architect Tomás Augusto Soler. It was first called Teatro Dona Maria Pia, and then changed to Teatro Funchalense, after that to Teatro Manuel de Arriaga and at last Teatro Baltazar Dias, paying homage to the Madeira dramaturge from the XVI century.

Owned by the same family since 1875, this former farm house has undergone some changes, but they kept the characteristics of rural architecture practised in the region in the last quarter of the last century.
