This tower is, in fact, a Clock tower; the popular designation calabash tower comes from the clay calabashes that served to amplify the bell sound. Although the mechanism of the clock has been modernized, this tower is set on the first generation of clock towers in Portugal. From the top of its 126 metres it is possible to see the urban net of Santarém and the fields surrounding it. Nowadays it shelters the Núcleo Museológico do Tempo.

Its creation is related to the expansion process of the city and the enlargement of the limits of the walls, since it was created where there was an old tower of the outer wall, adapted for its current functions in the 19th century. The campsite of Freixial, located near the Natural Reserve of Serra da Malcata, is characterized by a landscape of valleys and streams. Here you have the possibility to do camping surrounded of nature in its purest state, in the shadows of fresh ash trees, Alders and willows that abound in this space. You can also refresh yourself with a dip in the ribeira and prepare your meals outdoors, in grills provided by the Park.

Created in 1995, the Guadiana Natural Park, that includes the parishes of Mértola and Serpa, is of great interest in terms of plants, animals, geology and landscapes. The medium part of the Guadiana valley, between Pulo do Lobo and the mouth of the Vascão brook, with its valleys and several tributaries, is beautiful above average. There are boars, little bustards, bustards, otters, black storks, griffins, wild olive trees and Brazilian peppers.

Also called Santa Luzia hill, it is located by th city of Viana do Castelo. From the belvedere, 249 metres high, one can view the city, the Lima valley and the sea.
