The Casa do Caseiro is situated about 15 minutes away from Funchal, near the place where the famous descending of the "Carros de Cestos" (basket cars) takes place. It is a typical Madeira house, with two guest houses, one with more than 100 years and another built recently.

It is characterized by a humid subtropical climate and large trees, mainly laurel, whitewood and cedar, constituting an ecosystem of high importance. It is classified as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
