The vineyard culture landscape of the Pico Island is composed of the Lajido of creation by the old Lajido of Santa Luzia, occupying a total of 154 hectares. These places are excellent representations of traditional architecture, landscape design and natural elements, located on extensive lava fields. These are characterized by extreme wealth and geological and landscape beauty. The diversity of fauna and flora there this is associated with an abundance of endemic rare species and communities, and protection status. Since 2004 the vineyard culture landscape of the Pico Island is classified by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

It belongs to the Old Massif and it is located on the centre-east of the Trás-os-Montes region, between the Tua and Sabor rivers. It is over 12 km long and 5 km wide and reaches its peak at na altitude of 1200 metres, facing the Vilariça valley. The Azibo Reservoir, coming from the dam, has a regional type surrounding area that is protected for its riches in terms of plants and animals.

Here there are some rocky formations with fossils of pre-historic creatures, some of which over 480 million years old. The place belongs to the pedestrian trail "Rota dos Fósseis" (Route of the Fossils).
