This fortress, which constructions was ordered in 1603 by Filipe III, is located in the Ilha do Pessegueiro (Peach Tree Island), to the south of Porto Covo. During the Restauração War (Restoration War) it was attacked several times by the Castilla army and was severely damaged. At the end of the 17th century, during the reign of Dom Pedro II, a new fortress was constructed. It is currently in ruins.

In the core headquarters are housed an exhibition dedicated to the 20TH century, in Sines, and some archaeological booty. There are parts of the facilities dedicated to Vasco da Gama of great interest, where you can see if your biography, the House where lived and their role in the Portuguese maritime history.
