Natural Resources in Estarreja It is part of the National Ecological Reserve – National Agricultural Reserve. The salt marsh predominates in this place, with many shorebirds and inhabited by birds characteristic of wetlands.
This location includes a route that crosses areas known as marshes and cultivated land, such as rice fields.
It borders the municipality of Murtosa and has Caniçal as its predominant habitat. The Mallard and the Moorhen are some of the most observed water birds, and as for birds of prey, the most common is the Western Marsh Harrier. Other animals stand out, such as the Common Reed Bunting, the Weasel, the Mediterranean Tree Frog and the Brown Rat.
Also nicknamed Esteiro de Estarreja, the place was opened artificially in the 19th century. At that time, salt, "moliço", fish, adobes, sand and reeds were traded here. As it is more urbanized than the other estuaries, the fauna and flora are not prominent.
This place is dominated by the "sapal". The eurasian reed warbler, the purple heron and the western marsh harrier stand out among the birds.

A cork oak tree named Quercus Suber L, that belongs to the family of the Fagaceae. This tree, located on the São Geraldo Square, belongs to the Parish of the Freguesia of Veiros. It was classed in 1938 and revealed as of public interest in 1993.
