Much sought after by tourists, what remains of the Albicastrense Castle rises in an area overlooking the city. It was built by the Templars in the Middle Ages, this despite the traces of human presence in that area in pre- and proto-history, having been surrounded by a line of walls and towers. In the precinct of the fortress, in the citadel, were the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo and the Palácio dos Alcaides. This fortification was part of a defensive system that bordered the Tagus River.

Built in 1442, this castle belonged to the Castelo Branco family until the 18th century. It was restored, currently hosting a municipal gallery. From the original construction, there are still the medieval battlemented towers of the old fortified house.

Nineteenth-century house where the writer Camilo Castelo Branco lived between 1864 and 1890. In 1915 the House suffered a large fire and was rebuilt in 1920, having maintained the same aspect that the primitive building. In 1954 it was turned into a House Museum of Camilo Castelo Branco.

The Castelo de Almeida ruins can be found in the village's walled enclosure and are classified as a National Monument. Its origin is either Muslim or Leonese, while the second castle resulted from the rebuilding of the previous one during the reign of D. Dinis, at the end of the 12th century. In Gothic style, it occupied an area of around 100 meters, being one of the smallest castles built in the border area.
