This complex comprises the Centro Ciência Viva do Alviela (Alviela's Live Science Centre), the camping, the river beach and a pedestrian trail with informations.

This phenomenon, rare in Portugal, is to be found at the Natural Park of the Aires and Candeeiros Mountains. In this depression, named Minde Lagoon, the lake is bigger in the winter, due to the underground galleries that flood with water. It measures about four kilometres by 1800 metres and has a depth of around 195 metres.
