Designed by the world renowned Álvaro Siza Vieira, it is already a reference in contemporary architecture. Versatile building, it allows sporting, cultural, musical, children's and business events to be held.
In an old reclassified agricultural property, visitors are invited to discover the rural world and to adopt sustainable lifestyle habits and to protect the environment, through a set of educational and leisure activities. It has themed gardens, a picnic area, biological vegetable gardens, bicycles, a treetop adventure park, a children's climbing wall and a Canine Training Centre.
It brings together a collection of around two thousand drawings by the painter Júlio Resende. This space develops a vast educational service and promotes the most diverse cultural events, with emphasis on temporary exhibitions, concerts, conferences and workshops.
The Mining Museum of S. Pedro da Cova is installed in one of the old Houses of Malta, built by the Companhia das Minas de Carvão, with the aim of housing miners from other lands – the "Maltese". Later, this building was acquired by the Parish Council of S. Pedro da Cova, and on the 30th of September 1989 it was inaugurated as the Mining Museum, becoming a place of memory of the former coal mining workers, assuming an industrial vocation – receiving the movable property that could be collected at the time of the closure of the Companhia das …
