10 Free New Year's Eve Programs in Portugal

In the Portuguese capital the end of the year is three days, with concerts every night from 29 to 31 December in Terreiro do Paço. On New Year's Eve, don't miss the Xutos & Pontapés concert, starting at 10 pm, and Ornatos Violeta after midnight. Don't miss the spectacular fireworks.

In the historic Avenida dos Aliados, in Porto, the good children back home from 10:30 pm, with a performance by Tiago Nacarato, also very popular with the Brazilian public. After the usual New Year's Eve fireworks, kick off with a right foot and a concert by Miguel Araújo, now solo after several nights with Os Azeitonas. The party is on with DJs starting at 2.

If you prefer a beach environment, even in the middle of Winter, Fisherman's Beach may be the answer you are looking for. In Albufeira, the end-of-year animation begins with Amor Electro at 10 pm, followed by The Black Mamba after 12 pm and the traditional light show. Fireworks are a particularly amazing experience, with the background of the sea.

It has a five-day program from December 28 to January 1, and various locations spread across the iconic Nazareth beach. Highlight for the passage, on the South Stage, of Resistência on December 29 and Toy the following day. In the evening of 31, you can choose between the performances of Supa Squad, the Função Públika and DJ Paulo Mendes. At midnight, don't miss the firework.

In the so-called “student city” you just have to choose: the entertainment is guaranteed at Largo da Portagem, Praça do Comércio, Praça 8 de Maio and Terreiro da Erva, with the firework show hovering over Mondego during 12 minutes from midnight. At Largo da Portagem, there is a Os Azeitonas concert beginning at 10 pm and, at 00h15 of the new year, Pedro Abrunhosa takes the stage.

In the highest city of mainland Portugal, the party is also a must. At Praça Luís de Camões, also known as Praça Velha, the party begins with Os Quatro e Meia, a band formed in Coimbra when its members were students. After the fireworks, it is the turn of Carlão, from Da Weasel, band with a return scheduled for NOS Alive.

In Braga, the excitement starts with DJ Feed and Meninos do Rio. The party continues until the countdown to the new year, where the traditional fireworks show will take center stage. There is meanwhile a concert by Fernando Daniel, winner of The Voice Portugal, and DJ Wilson Honrado. On January 1st there is also guaranteed animation from 3 pm.

Portuguese singer António Variações was entitled to a biographical film in 2019, with the film's “improvised” band continuing their concert route with a performance in Figueira da Foz from 10:25 pm. Already after the firework display, rapper ProfJam and DJ Tom Enzy take to the stage at Praça do Forte.

For lovers of popular Portuguese music, or who prefer to celebrate New Year's Eve indoors, Barcelos is one of the most attractive places. The party takes place at the Municipal Pavilion from 11 pm. Already after entry in 2020, the poster is stuffed, highlighting the performance of the singer of popular music, or commonly called "pimba", Ágata.

In Madeira, there is no holiday season like Funchal, whose firework continues to “echo” around the world. In addition to being one of the most celebrated “business cards” at this time, from 2006 to 2012 it featured in the Guinness World Record as “the biggest fireworks show in the world”. Over six kilometers in length, the phenomenon is truly great.
