Although the antiquity of the church is evident in the thickness of the walls, clearly visible in the deep cut of the windows, and it is believed to have Romanesque roots, the temple probably only dates from the 14th century. It underwent extensive renovations in the mid-18th century, which gave it the baroque and rococo character it presents today. It is a set of seven trapezoidal sarcophagi dating from the end of the Middle Ages, placed in the churchyard of the Parish Church of Mesão Frio. Each of them consists of a chest and a lid, two of which are uncovered, with the lid on the side, having a tomb cavity with anthropomorphic contours. Five of them have a lid with a polygonal section with six planes and the other two have a lid of a different type, with a pentagonal section and a gabled volume.

Former Mannerist Franciscan convent. Currently, the Mesão Frio City Council, the Land Registry and the Tourism Office operate in the convent building. The interior of the church features wooden ceilings, a nave with a high choir, pulpits and two chapels. Together with the Convent of São Francisco de Vinhais, it constituted one of the two convents of the Order of Friars Minor that were Apostolic Seminaries in the district.

On the main façade, the portico, topped by an oculus, has a round arch, supported on pilasters and with a triangular pediment. Inside it has a single nave, covered by a barrel vault, decorated with tempera paintings. The walls are covered with "standard" tiles from the 17th century.
