The Mondego river is the longest Portuguese river. It starts on the Estrela Mountain, at an approximate altitude of 1425 metres and flows to the Atlantic Ocean after 258 kilometres, near Fugueira da Foz. Its tributaries are the Dão, on the right bank, and the Alva, Ceira and Arunca, on the left bank.
