The urban park of the Ul, green space occupying an area equivalent to 30 football fields, is a modern and functional place of walk and recreation of the inhabitants of São João da Madeira and its visitors. Located in the city centre, the Park was designed by architect Sidónio Pardal and is characterized by the surrounding walls in granite and by a tree-lined interior that meanders the river Ul. At the Sobralinho Palace one may view its rich collection of tiles and ceilings painted by Antero Basalisa and decorations of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Palace also has a park with gardens, an orchard and woods.

Created by the Valongo Town Hall in cooperation with the Faculty of Science of Oporto's University,The Palozoic Park intends to preserve and divulge the fossil areas in Valongo and of its flora and fauna.It is an open space, in the region's hills.
