Vila Nova de Cerveira

Small fort, pentagonal in plan and composed of five irregular bastions. It has no foundations, resting directly on the natural soil. Its construction began in 1642 and 1663, during the Restoration Wars, and was then restored in 1797. In 1809, it was destroyed by General Soult's troops, and is currently in ruins. This fort is located very close to the Lovelhe archaeological site.

This small, rectangular fort was built in the 18th close to the location of a previous fort dedicated to St Ignacio. This previous fort, located on a cliff, was destroyed when the cliff fell into the sea during the 1755 earthquake. This lead to the new fort being built further back than the one dedicated to St Ignacio. The presence of a fort at this site was necessary for protecting the tunny traps located througout the coast. The fort is now in ruins.

The São João Baptista fort, next to the recreational port of Machico, was built by order of the Governor of Madeira, Captain-General Duarte Sodré Pereira, in 1708. It is also called Forte do Desembarcadouro because the discoverers disembarked nearby the island, Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira. It defended the bay of Machico, doing crossfire with the fort of Nossa Senhora do Amparo. Inside there is a neo-Gothic chapel, dedicated to the saint after whom the fortress is named.

Filipe fortress. It is located near the Albarquel beach, in the area of the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park.
