In 1808, a strong volcanic eruption destroyed the greater part of the village of Urzelina, leaving this time only this church tower.

Church built by testament of Infante d. Henrique, in 1460. Inside is a collection of sacred art from the 17th and 18th centuries.

This gate is one of the few vestiges of the old fortress, built in the 18th century to defend the village from the pirates. It was built between 1797 and 1799 by Matias de Avelar. At the top of the door is the coat of arms with the Royal arms of Portugal.

The island of São Jorge is known by many mills that exist here. In white or red, these mills came to replace the traditional wood.

Church dating from the 17TH century, formerly part of the convent of São Francisco das Velas. The elaborate cornices in black lava and gilt. Suffered a major restoration process at the beginning of the 20th century, and is currently on the tutelage of the Irmandade da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Velas.

Located in Ponta dos Rosais lighthouse, in the extreme northwest of the island. From this point we can get beautiful views of the ocean, the island of Faial and Pico Island on the horizon. The set of this tip, of the islets and cliffs around is classified as a site of Community interest.
