A cabeça de Xara, também conhecida por "Queijo de Cabeça de Porco", é uma especialidade alentejana, muito confecionada no verão, uma vez que se trata de um prato frio, nutritivo e estimulante.
Area with many chestnut-trees, whose materials, after prepared, is essential to make basketry. Portalegre presents a crafts work rich in baskets, panniers and large baskets. The first two are used to harvest and carrying olives and the large baskets are to transport bread. The basketry in this region began with the baskets that were used to export chestnuts to Brazil.
Peculiar sound traps that imitate the singing of the partridge, the bird-calls are quite used in Alentejo. Made of a piece of wood or horn, some are decorated.
The adufe, a rectangular timbrel, is used mostly in religious ceremonies and accompanying the songs of the people. Although it is falling into disuse nowadays, Portalegre and Santa Eulália are the places where they are still used, especially by women.
Worked in weaver’s loom, the traditional Alentejo blankets have as main motif the square shapes with brown, white or blue, white colours. At Urra are made weaving works that are later embroidered.
