To learn a little of Amarante, start your walk along the bridge, in the city centre. This bridge, classified as a national monument, worth a visit to admire its Baroque details and to enjoy the beautiful view over the Tâmega River. Continue your spent by the banks of the River, passing by several gardens that the city offers. Finally, pass the historical centre streets, admiring its old houses.
Built in the canal of the Tâmega, between the stations of Amarante and plate, the Tamega line Ecopista provides users with contact with the natural heritage, characterized by green spaces preserved and complemented with the densification to shade tree. Public lighting covers the section between the stations of Amarante and Handsome, with more urban characteristics, which promotes the practice of jogging. It also has banks, located at strategic points along the route.
In the month of April, at the village of Cavalinho, in Gondar, the Feira dos Burros (Donkey Fair) or Feira dos 29 (Fair of the 29th, because it is on the 29th) takes place. In this time honoured fair cattle is sold and dokey and horse races take place.
The trails along the mountain, where one should visit the Leijido brook, the belvedere, the eolic park of Pena Suar with views of the village of Covelo do Monte, the deactivated mines of Fonte Figueira (Pedrado) and the belvedere of Our Lady of Moreira.
A walk by the brook of the same name, 6 km long, along the parishes of Gondar, Lufrei and Vila Chã. It starts and finishes by the romanesque church of Gondar.
