Th Marão mountain, located on the border of the Oporto and Vila Real districts, is 20 km long and separates the basins of the Tâmega and Corgo rivers.

The island is located to the east of São Gonçalo and the city's historic centre. It has a wide number of different vegetal species. It has a pier for recreational boats.

The Aboboreira Mountain has wonderful views, namely on the Baião and Marco de Canaveses sides. It is located by the Marão Mountain. The Menhir of Travanca, one of the most complete in the Iberian Peninsula, is located there.
