The walls of the old Tagarete pier fort, which served as protection against corsair attacks in the 17th and 18th centuries, still remain present today, separating the fishing port from the marina of Vila Franca do Campo.
Born in Vila Franca do Campo in late July, Bento de Góis 1562 became one of the Portuguese explorers in Central Asia during the first decade of the 17th century. In 1907, his countrymen erected a statue in his honor, in largo that also bears his name.

Statue commemorating the 500 years of the arrival of the Portuguese in the Azores archipelago, more precisely the Santa Maria and São Miguel, in 1432. The monument is situated overlooking the port of Vila Franca do Campo.
Lighthouse opened in 1901, was the second to be built in the Azores. Formerly it was fuelled by oil, gas and diesel, currently runs on electricity. Near this place there is a small house where, from 1892, was installed the Semaphore Station.
