Moinho de Papel de Leiria / Moinho dos Caniços

Located on the banks of the River Lis, it was rehabilitated with the contribution of the architect Siza Vieira in 2009, and aims to preserve the memory of traditional arts and crafts, such as the milling of cereal (corn, wheat and rye), the manufacture of olive oil and the production of paper.

The Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação is a place of pilgrimage where many people goes in search of miracles. The first took place with Susana Dias who, supported by crutches, entered the chapel and laid down on the floor. At the moment of the elevation she wanted to kneel down, but in the end she got up, threw away her crutches and walked around the hermitage loudly proclaiming the miracle. It produced such a strong popular commotion that everyone helped in the construction of this Sanctuary of Senhora da Encarnação.

What remains of the castle, for the most part, dates back to the reconstruction carried out by Dom João I. At the top of the hill stands the superb keep that seems to be from the Dionysian foundation; of the royal palace there are occasional Gothic twin windows and pieces of arches from the galleries.
Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Pena

The Church of Nossa Senhora da Pena is on the right side of Terreiro da Alcáçova. Rebuilt during the reign of King João I, the chancel and portal are in Gothic style and the arch connecting the choir and the nave are in Manueline style.

Built in the 14th century, it was only in 1562 that the church became sacred. It was remodeled over the centuries, with Renaissance and Baroque details in the side chapels. At the beginning of the 20th century, its demolition was planned, but it survived as a prison and, from 1920, it was transferred to Companhia Leiriense de Moagens.

The construction began in the 16th century and was completed only in the second half of the 17th century. The Renaissance influence in the interior stands out, highlighting the gilded carvings of the high altar, of remarkable elegance and sobriety. The facade, in Baroque style, was rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake.
