Founded in 1154 by the Knights from the Order of the Templar, this church lost all of its mediaeval traces. It is a simple construction topped by a bell ringer tower in which the façade is precede by a simple porch in stone.

São João de Alporão church is a temple from the 12th century and it appeared under the political – religious fight contexts during the Christian Reconquest. This is a singular temple by the way it associates the Gothic style and the Romanic style. On the interior it stands out the fourteen hundreds tombstone from Dom Duarte de Menezes. Nowadays the church is open to the public as a Museum for Temporary Exhibitions.
