The vegetation is secular with about 800 arboreous species and large variety of flowers. It is a garden of romantic conception and a has a bandstand, an esplanade, a library, a greenhouse, artificial grottos, lakes and picnic area, being one of the most pleasant spaces in the city.

The project of an artificial tropical forest began in 1910. The Greenhouse opened in 1930 and has four spaces: three greenhouses and a walking area by the lake. It has vast tropical flora, with exotic species from the five continents. The decorative ambience has small grottos, statues, staircases and fountains. A very romantic place that deserves a visit.

The garden was designed by the architect Teles and V. Barreto in 1962/69, with the modernist influences of the time. It is a space with 8ha, with exotic vegetal species, Portuguese trees and a lake. It has a set of sculptures that make the connection to the various buildings of the foundation and has also an open air auditorium that, during the summer, is the stage of theatre, music and dance shows.
