During the excavation which took place along several years by the ruins of the Salir castle, the technicians have found a variety of objects dating back to the moorish period, with much historical interest. It was then decided to build a museum where those objects are exhibited. A project by the architect Mário Varela Gomes.
A thematic museum, divided into areas - music, dance, clothings, popular theatre and rural icons - where elements recolted by the Rancho Folclórico da Casa do Povo de Alte during its more than 60 years of existence are exhibited.
This library promotes cultural activities in Loulé. It has three floors: in the basement there is the deposit, in floor 0 thre is a multipurpose room and an audiovisual section, and on the upper floor there is the reading area and a plastic expression atelier.
In this museum one can observe the machines of the carob's grinding and those of breaking almonds, thus getting to know the cycles of production of these dried fruits and the traditional importance of the milling work in this municipality.
The municipal museum of Loulé is located in two ancient parts of the "Alcaidaria", dating back to the 14th century. One can observe archeological findings that range from the proto-historic period to the Middle Ages, with a passage by the roman, roman-visigoth and moorish periods.
