The House-Museum of Anselmo Braamcamp Freire, a Portuguese archaeologist, historian and politician, features collections of paintings, furniture and weapons.
The municipal museum is located in the São João de Alporão Church, a Roman-Gothic monument of the 13th century. It has a highly valuable archaeological and cultural collection, with collections of archaeology, ethnology, numismatics and art.
The municipal library, placed at the Braamcamp Freire palace, is one of the largest in the country, with a bibliographic collection of more than 70000 works of art. One of the bibliographic founds with great importance is the Braamcamp Freire library, with acquisitions and offers, manuscripts, the archive of the house itself, old volumes and XIV/XV centuries manuscripts of great historic value, first editions and precious books.
At the Ribatejo capital, the “festa brava” gains redoubled importance and notability. For the lovers, the bullfight square Celestino Graça is a place of essential visit.
This is an Interpretive Centre the Alcazaba de Santarém, currently occupied by the Jardim das Portas do Sol, which features the oldest and most important traces of the human occupation of Santarém. The showroom has a combination of traditional showcases with a multimedia component, as well as an interactive showcase with some explanations in his own Roman ruins.
